The inaugural Abu Dhabi Young Musician Competition came to a spectacular conclusion on 24th March when 9 finalists in the advanced and intermediate categories, competed for the title of Abu Dhabi Young Musician. This competition was an opportunity for musicians in the city to showcase their talents and perform on a stage for the first time since the beginning of COVID-19. More than 100 gifted musicians took to the stage performing in 9 different categories from pop/rock drumming to strings and everything in between, the winner of each category competing in the final on Thursday night.
Our wonderfully talented Year 6 pupil, Yuexuan (Amy) Li, competed in the String category on Wednesday night against 9 others and came out of her heat victorious paving the way for the final. Yuexuan performed 2 pieces in the final, Béla Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances and Concerto No.9 in A minor by Charles Auguste de Bériot. Her performance was mesmerizing and had captured the audience and judges from the first note. Yuexuan used techniques and flourishes that are well above her age but executed them with such finesse and precision that you could have been excused for mistaking her performance for that of a seasoned musician.
It was a hugely talented competition, and we are proud to announce that Yuexuan was crowned Abu Dhabi’s Young Musician of the Year 2022.
