Barney Durrant has significant experience in independent schools, and believes strongly that academic and pastoral development is inextricably linked. The promotion of positive wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem combined with a curriculum embedded with extra-curricular and enrichment activities allows pupils to thrive at school, whilst also developing the knowledge, skills and habits to become highly successful in later life.

Before joining Brighton College, Abu Dhabi, Mr Durrant was Head at St Lawrence College in the UK for five years, where all three of his children attended and his wife, Charlie, also taught. Prior to that, he spent eight years at Harrow Hong Kong where he was the Principal Deputy Head Pastoral and one of the founding members of the Senior Leadership Team. He was also a Housemaster and Head of Geography at Stowe School, after starting his teaching career at Sedbergh School.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Management from the University of Nottingham and a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography from University College London. He played rugby at a high level when he was younger, and as well as gaining his PGCE from Cambridge University he also gained a Full Blue in Athletics.

His aims are to work with parents, pupils and staff to ensure excellence in all areas of school life, to ensure that the Brighton College values of curiosity, confidence and kindness are embedded throughout the curriculum and to develop happy and respectful lifelong learners.

Ruth Forsythe is an outstanding educational leader with a wealth of experience in the field. She has dedicated over a decade of her career to Brighton College Abu Dhabi, and her impact has been felt throughout the College Community. 

Mrs Forsythe's leadership style is characterised by a commitment to the holistic development of all pupils. She strives to create an authentic environment where pupils can strive academically and personally.  As a parent of two children at the College it places Mrs Forsythe in a unique advantage to allow her to understand the needs and perspectives of both pupils and parents. 

Mrs Forsythe has always approached her work with a genuine spirit. Grounded in her own lived experiences, she possesses an extraordinary ability to connect with others on a personal level, fostering trust, showing acute empathy and a profound understanding of the needs and pupils and staff alike. 

Furthermore, Mrs Forsythe is unwavering in her pursuit of excellence. She sets high standards for herself and her team and works tirelessly to ensure they are met. Her commitment to excellence is reflected in the school's outstanding academic achievements and its vibrant and engaging co-curricular programme.

Beyond her role as an educational leader, Mrs Forsythe is a compassionate mentor and an advocate for personal and professional growth. She invests time and energy in empowering the staff, equipping them with tools and strategies needed to make a lasting impact on the lives of their pupils and beyond.  

Dr Jennifer Walters is the Head of Senior School at Brighton College Abu Dhabi. Her experience includes teaching, leadership and boarding roles in outstanding UK independent schools including Fettes College, Edinburgh, Malvern College, and Bedford Girls’ School. Before joining Brighton College Abu Dhabi in 2021, Jennifer was the Founding Head of Senior School at Fettes College Guangzhou in the South of China.

Jennifer is influenced by the work of the late Professor Sir Ken Robinson which insists that an outstanding education puts pupils in touch with their element, that schools that instil a lifelong love of learning prepare pupils to flourish in the future, yet that childhood is no rehearsal. Jennifer, along with her leadership team, aims to ensure that pupils leave Brighton College Abu Dhabi when the time comes not only qualified but richly equipped for their next steps beyond Brighton.

Within the busy remit of Head of Senior School, Jennifer particularly enjoys her role as an EPQ supervisor in which she delights in mentoring budding researchers in developing their skills and interests and hopefully igniting in others a passion for research.

Dan McNulty has been the Deputy Head Academic of the Senior School since September 2023. He holds a Master’s in Physics (MPhys), and after completing his degree, he pursued a PGCE in Manchester, where his love for teaching begun. He initially taught in and around Manchester, where he started his leadership journey by working with data and focusing on improvements in assessment and reporting.

In 2016, he joined Brighton College Abu Dhabi as the Head of Physics (2016–2022) and was appointed Head of Science (2018–2023). The results attained by the pupils during these years, as well as their love for science, were key factors in his success. He was further promoted to Assistant Head of Years 10 & 11 (2022–2024), where he played an instrumental role in supporting pupils to achieve outstanding GCSE results. He has been personally responsible for delivering exceptional enrichment and co-curricular activities for pupils within the Sciences and beyond, including international ski trips and trips to BCUK. He is passionate about creating opportunities that foster a love of learning beyond the classroom.

His current passion is working with the Heads of Department, helping them develop their departments in all ways from results to academic enrichment, to general departmental improvement, all whilst while promoting and nurturing pupils’ passion for learning both academically and beyond the classroom.

Looking ahead, he is focused on growing the Senior School curriculum in every way, ensuring that BCAD remains ahead of the curve with the ever-changing landscape of GCSE and A-level qualifications offered in the British system.

Simon Baker has extensive experience of leading Pastoral care in Abu Dhabi in Independent and State sectors, both in the UK and internationally. Before joining Brighton College, Abu Dhabi, Mr Baker was a Boarding Housemaster at Rossall School, Lancashire.

Before this, Mr Baker lived in Hampshire, where he worked at The Portsmouth Grammar School as Head of Rugby with responsibility for the development of the sport across the Senior School. Mr Baker enjoys helping and supporting all pupils to be the best versions of themselves and achieve their dreams. Mr Baker grew up in Warwickshire and studied Physical Education at Liverpool JM University before pursuing his passion in education. During his tenure at Brighton College Abu Dhabi, he has also completed his Masters of Education in Pastoral Care. His wife Helen, who is a Veterinary Surgeon and works in Abu Dhabi. They have two children at the College. Mr Baker is a keen Cross fitter and also coaches senior rugby at Abu Dhabi Harlequins.

Emma Sims is a dedicated and passionate educator who fostered a strong background in Physical Education, Dance, and pastoral and academic leadership though her years working at Queen’s College London, before joining Brighton College Abu Dhabi in 2019.

As Assistant Head (Head of Years 7-9), she has a keen focus on holistic development and works closely with pupils to guide them through their early Senior School years, ensuring they build solid foundations for success. She plays a key role in supporting pupils with their GCSE Options, helping them to make informed choices that align with their interests and aspirations.

With a focus on developing pupils’ confidence and resilience, Emma enthusiastically leads the Year 9 Diploma, an enrichment programme bespoke to Brighton College Abu Dhabi. Through this initiative, she encourages pupils to develop new skills, challenge themselves beyond their comfort zones, and grow into well-rounded individuals.

Emma thrives on creating a positive and inclusive Lower Senior community where every pupil feels valued, supported and empowered to achieve their best.

Luke Bromwich has extensive experience of leading successful schools in the Independent and State sectors, both in the UK and internationally. Before joining Brighton College, Abu Dhabi, Mr Bromwich was Headmaster at St Margaret’s Prep, Calne where he also played a key role as a member of the Executive Leadership Team at the sister school, St Mary’s, Calne.

Before this, Mr Bromwich lived in Hong Kong for 6 years, where he worked at Kellett School as Deputy Head with responsibility for the development of the curriculum, assessment procedures and the quality of teaching and learning. Mr Bromwich is an active member of IAPS and has experience of supporting school development as a Foundation Governor.  Mr Bromwich enjoys collaborating with colleagues to drive standards and manage change.

Mr Bromwich grew up in Devon and studied Engineering at Exeter University before pursuing his passion in education.  His wife Frankie, who is also a teacher, has experience of working in both the private and public sectors and now specialises in school development, marketing and admissions. They have two children at the College.

Mr Tubatsi Moloi serves as the Deputy Head Pastoral of Prep School at Brighton College Abu Dhabi. With a robust background in education, he has taught in South Africa and held significant leadership roles in the United Kingdom, including his most recent position as a Headteacher in England. He is a great believer in harnessing collaborative expertise and has an unwavering vision to drive school improvement. His leadership style is one of a distributive approach, allowing emerging leaders of learning to thrive and, in so doing, contribute to facilitating succession planning. Mr Moloi's extensive experience as a school leader is further demonstrated by his training to lead Challenge Partners reviews. This role has enabled him to conduct evaluations of schools from diverse UK settings within the Challenge Partners network, enhancing his skills in auditing, challenging, and supporting fellow school leaders. As Deputy Head Pastoral of Prep School, Mr Moloi strives to create an environment that supports pupils in developing the skills necessary to manage their own behaviour, leading to a more harmonious and productive school community. Mr Moloi is committed to exemplifying the College's values through his actions, resilience, and dedication

Meera Patel is a passionate and experienced educator with over 10 years of teaching and leadership experience across Key Stages 1 and 2. She is dedicated to creating a safe and nurturing environment where children feel confident to ask questions, make mistakes, and take risks as they learn and grow.

Before joining Brighton College, Ms Patel lived in Leicester, United Kingdom for seven years, where she worked as a Key Stage 1 Phase Leader. She played a key role in developing the Mathematics curriculum from EYFS to Year 6 and served as a lead moderator for English and Maths. Supporting colleagues, encouraging collaboration, and helping others to succeed have always been at the heart of her leadership style.

Originally from Bedfordshire, Ms Patel studied Business Management Accounting at Brunel University before finding her true calling in education. Outside of work, she enjoys baking and has recently taken up circuit training. Ms. Patel also has two children who attend the college, keeping her closely connected to the school community.

Kelly Kane is an experienced and dedicated educator whose career has been defined by a passion for nurturing the potential of every child. Having worked in both the UK and internationally, she has held a variety of roles, from classroom teacher to House Mistress in boarding schools, and now Assistant Head Teacher at Brighton College Abu Dhabi. These experiences have shaped her holistic approach to education, allowing her to understand the importance of knowing each pupil as an individual and tailoring support to their unique needs. Her pastoral-focused mindset ensures that children not only thrive academically but also develop confidence and emotional resilience.

Kelly’s educational philosophy is rooted in building strong relationships with pupils and staff, creating a positive and inclusive environment where everyone is empowered to achieve excellence. She is passionate about fostering curiosity and creativity through inspirational learning experiences. She has also developed innovative curricula designed to engage and challenge pupils, ensuring they are well-prepared for both academic success and personal growth.

Outside of work, Kelly is a devoted animal lover and has rescued two cats who are now an integral part of her daily life. She enjoys travelling, exploring new cultures, and scuba diving to discover the beauty of the underwater world. 

Ms Kelly Mansbridge, Head of Pre-Prep at Brighton College Abu Dhabi, has been an integral part of the College for the past seven years. A dedicated educational leader with extensive experience in both the UAE and the UK, she is deeply committed to early childhood education and ensuring that every child feels safe, valued and inspired to learn.

Ms Mansbridge believes that a child’s school journey should be filled with success, curiosity, and positivity. She places great importance on fostering strong partnerships between home and school, encouraging parents to play an active role in their child’s learning. Through daily interactions and special events such as the Pre-Prep Proms, she creates opportunities for meaningful engagement and collaboration.

Passionate about preparing children for the future, Ms Mansbridge prioritises not only academic development but also social and emotional growth. She champions a culture of kindness, compassion, and tolerance while instilling essential learning skills such as resilience and perseverance; key qualities that enable children to navigate challenges and achieve success.

Under her leadership, Brighton College Abu Dhabi’s Pre-Prep provides a nurturing and supportive environment where a love for learning is cultivated. Through fostering curiosity, confidence, and a sense of belonging, Ms Mansbridge ensures that every child thrives academically and personally, developing into a well-rounded, confident individual.

Miss Bethany Austen, Deputy Head Pastoral for Pre-Prep, joined Brighton College Abu Dhabi in August 2018 and feels privileged to be part of a school community that shares her passions for excellence in education and pupil wellbeing. She holds a Bachelor of Education degree in Primary Teaching from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. Coming from a family with a long tradition of educators, Miss Austen was inspired from an early age to pursue a career in teaching.

Since joining Brighton College, Miss Austen has held several leadership roles including Year Group Leader and Assistant Head for Early Years, before being appointed as Deputy Head Pastoral for Pre-Prep in 2023.

Brighton College’s values of curiosity, confidence and kindness align closely with Miss Austen’s own personal beliefs, with kindness being at the heart of her approach. By prioritising wellbeing and embedding kindness into all aspects of school life, she aims to create a foundation for pupils to navigate life’s challenges with empathy, resilience and confidence.

Miss Austen is currently studying for her National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH), further developing her leadership expertise. She is deeply committed to ensuring that pupils are equipped with the tools to regulate their emotions and succeed both within and beyond the classroom.

Miss. Harriet Kelly, Assistant Head of Early Years at Brighton college and brings over 15 years of experience in early childhood education across the UK and UAE. A specialist in early years development, Miss. Harriet Kelly also holds a Forest School qualification, which enriches her holistic approach to teaching by encouraging children to play, explore, and engage in curiosity based learning. Since joining Brighton College three years ago, Miss Harriet Kelly has developed a vision for our early years grounded in innovative and challenging learning environments that support young learners in developing independence, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning. Her philosophy emphasises the importance of purposeful play and exploration, ensuring every child thrives socially, emotionally, and academically.  is deeply committed to nurturing strong partnerships between home and school, understanding that collaboration is key to each child’s success. Mrs Zara Phillips, Assistant Head of Key Stage One at Brighton College, Abu Dhabi, brings over 15 years of distinguished experience in primary education across the UAE and UK. Since joining the College four years ago, she has established herself as a dynamic educational leader, holding an NPQSL Certificate and drawing from her extensive background in curriculum development and her previous leadership roles at outstanding schools including Kings' School Dubai.

Her educational philosophy centers on creating purposeful and engaging learning experiences that celebrate each child's individuality. Mrs Phillips is dedicated to fostering independent thinking while building strong partnerships between home and school. Her approach emphasises the importance of adaptive teaching, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Beyond the classroom, Mrs Phillips is an avid traveler and a former competitive show jumper who proudly represented the UK in her youth. This continues to influence her belief in discipline, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence. As a mother to a young daughter, she brings a personal understanding to the parent-school partnership and remains committed to creating an educational environment where every child can flourish both academically and personally.
